The Living Without Disguises Project is a nonprofit organization whose ultimate mission is to broadcast the stories of LGBTQ+ people from every corner of the globe, in our own voices. We aim to create an inclusive historical record of people who identify within the LGBTQ+ community, from every gender identification, generation, culture, spirituality, ethnic background, socio-economic status, geographic location, and sphere of life. Our stories, as diverse as they may be, focus on how we shed the disguises we adopted in order to live our authentic selves.
Our purpose is to unite our community by providing a safe space to share, connect and celebrate who we are, where we have come from, and how we have come to live our own truth.
This online forum is the first phase of the Living Without Disguises project, initiated by Dale Dunham. From Dale’s story begins the outward spiral to curate the stories from the LGBTQ+ community across the globe.
In April 2017 Dale began a global journey to connect with and interview members of the global LGBTQ+ community, while inviting many more to submit their stories online. Spending four months in the UK and Europe during the summer of 2017, Dale visited many LGBTQ+ organizations and events. Immersing himself in the communities gave him an opportunity to get to know individuals and connect about ongoing issues affecting the LGBTQ+ communities.
Dale’s journey will continue in June of 2018 and conclude in February of 2019. A highlight of Dale’s travels includes the Gay Games in Paris, which will bring together 15,000 athletes, 70+ nations and tens of thousands of spectators. He will also visit Scotland, Poland, Greece, Israel, India, several countries in Southeast Asia, Philippines, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and more. Dale will continue visiting LGBTQ+ organizations to find out how they are working locally and nationally to advance rights, reduce discrimination and violence. He will also conduct interviews with local members of the LGBTQ+ community to learn how they live their authentic lives.
